Nana B. Osei-Bonsu embarked on her journey as a Mental Health Advocate over two decades ago, driven by a commitment to excellence and a profound desire to serve the voiceless. Her academic journey began at Wesley College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Communications in 2002.
Starting her professional career as a Mental Health Resource Coordinator in Philadelphia, Nana transitioned to a Behavioral Health clinical role at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). Over a decade, she dedicated herself to serving adults and geriatric patients grappling with mental illness.
During her tenure at UMMC, Nana's passion for learning led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Coppin State University in 2016. She subsequently earned a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on Nursing Education from Morgan State University in 2019.
Her prosperous career spans diverse roles, including serving as a Fundamental Skills Lab educator at the University of Maryland School of Nursing and teaching Mental Health to senior-level BSN students at Morgan State University. Nana has also gained extensive experience in case management, community health, and pediatric mental health.
Nana joined NIH in March 2020 as a Clinical Research Nurse in the Adult Behavioral Health Unit and currently serves as a Service Educator. In this capacity, her primary focus is to enhance educational and training initiatives within NBHP. She will design and implement specialized programs and workshops tailored to the specific needs of behavioral health professionals. She will oversee competency assessments, facilitates necessary educational training sessions, and develops curriculum materials to ensure that staff possess current knowledge and skills.
She is dedicated to fostering close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, advancing professional development, and promoting best practices in behavioral health care delivery. Nana’s goal is to develop a skilled and capable workforce that enhances patient care standards while aligning with CCND’s organizational objectives and contributing to the nursing community locally, nationally, and internationally.
